Thus far in the Independent Study and Mentorship program, the workload has been heavy, but rewarding. Through working on this past week’s research assessment a lot of new information was learned and the decision to mentee under a nurse practitioner was solidified. The information about general nurse practitioners was fairly easy to find; however, finding information about specific specialities and subspecialties such as pediatrics and cardiology was a lot more difficult.
The goal was to find a general overview of nurse practitioners in order to complete the first assessment, and it was completed in a fairly broad matter. While it would have been more beneficial to have been more successful finding information about subspecialties and specialties with reliable sources, but with more in-depth research what is needed can be found. Although most goals were completed, there was one left incomplete, and therefore this upcoming week there is one more goal than expected. Just as in last week, work ethic was not up to where it should be, not leaving nearly as much time as needed to complete the assessment. To fix this problem proactivity and productivity need to be higher, remembering to work ahead on assignments.
Over the next week the main thing to accomplish is finding information about pediatric cardiac nurse practitioners. To find this information digging deeper into the metaphorical rabbit’s hole will be needed to get past the surface level. As well as that big goal, there are smaller goals planned such as finding materials to develop my brand and create a professional resume. The research assessment due next Friday should be completed by Thursday night requiring only small edits on the night that it is due. Eventually, the plan is to adjust to the schedule of this year to complete assignments effectively and put out high quality work without stress.
